Who it suits

Drivers on P&O Ferries, DFDS or Irish Ferries who want to sleep close to the port and leave without fuss. The free car park is the main reason to choose it over town-centre hotels, especially with a roof box, bikes or a boot full of wine from the Calais wine warehouses.

It also works for late arrivals off the ferry. Food and drinks are available at the bar around the clock, so you are not hunting for an open restaurant at 11pm.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone wanting an evening in Calais: the hotel is in a residential and retail district. Rue Royale and Place d’Armes are a drive or a 20-minute walk away. Try ibis Styles Calais Centre instead.
  • LeShuttle passengers: Coquelles hotels are closer to the tunnel. See hotels near the LeShuttle terminal.
  • Families needing space: rooms are standard ibis doubles and twins, compact rather than generous.

Rooms

The 55 rooms come as a standard double or a standard room with two single beds. Expect the usual ibis set-up: air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a desk and a shower room. It is functional and clean rather than stylish, which is exactly what most guests want for one night.

Food and drink

The on-site pub-style brasserie serves meals, though guests have reported it closed at weekends and the restaurant has had seasonal closures, so do not count on a hot dinner without checking. The 24-hour bar serves snacks. Breakfast is a buffet at extra cost. For an early ferry, ask what time it starts.

Getting to the ferry in the morning

From Rue Greuze you join the main road towards the port and follow the “Car Ferry” signs. In light traffic it takes around five minutes to reach the check-in booths. Allow 60 minutes before departure with DFDS and Irish Ferries and 90 minutes with P&O, plus extra time for border checks at busy periods. France is one hour ahead of the UK.

Compare Calais to Dover ferry prices

Our view: one of the most practical hotels in Calais for ferry passengers. It will not make your trip memorable, but the free parking, midday check-out and five-minute run to the port solve the problems that matter on a Channel stopover.
