Hotels near Calais ferry port: the shortlist for early sailings and late arrivals
The car ferry terminal sits on the north-east edge of Calais, and only a handful of hotels are genuinely close to it. These are the ones worth comparing if you are sailing with P&O Ferries, DFDS or Irish Ferries.

How close is “close” to the Calais ferry terminal?
Distances on booking sites are measured in a straight line. The port has one way in for cars, via the A16 and the port access road, so a hotel that looks 500 metres away on a map can still be a few minutes’ drive. On the other hand, none of the hotels below is more than about ten minutes from the check-in booths outside rush hour.
The bigger mistake is booking a hotel described as “near Calais” that is really in Coquelles, next to the Channel Tunnel terminal. That is fine for LeShuttle, but it puts the whole of Calais between you and the ferry. If you are taking the train, use our guide to hotels near the LeShuttle terminal instead.
The hotels closest to the ferry port
1. Holiday Inn Calais Centre
Where: 6 Boulevard des Alliés, overlooking the marina
basin between the port and Calais Nord.
Distance: about 2,250 ft (0.4 miles) from the ferry
terminal and roughly 800 m from Calais-Ville station.
This is the nearest full-service hotel to the port and the one we would pick for a very early sailing. It has private parking, a bar, a fitness room and family rooms, and it accepts dogs (a basket and bowls are provided). Breakfast is a buffet and guests often describe it as expensive, so compare the room-only rate if you plan to eat on the ferry.

2. ibis Calais Car Ferry
Where: 2 Rue Greuze, in the Beau Marais district east of
the centre.
Distance: about 1 km (0.6 miles) from the car ferry
terminal, around five minutes by car.
A straightforward 55-room ibis with a large free car park, which matters if your car is loaded with wine or bikes. There is a pub-style bar and brasserie on site, and snacks are available around the clock. Check-in opens at midday and check-out is also at midday, which is generous for a late afternoon sailing. 3. ibis Styles Calais Centre
Where: 46 Rue Royale, the main restaurant street of
Calais Nord.
Distance: about 3,200 ft (0.6 miles) from the ferry
terminal and roughly 15 minutes by car from either terminal at quiet
times.
The pick if you want to walk to dinner and still reach the port quickly. Breakfast is part of the ibis Styles rate and guests report it starts at 6am. The private car park is small, has to be reserved and costs extra, so book a space when you book the room. Pets are accepted. See our ibis Styles Calais Centre review.

4. Hôtel Meurice
Where: Rue Edmond Roche, a quiet street behind the
Musée des Beaux-Arts.
Distance: about 0.7 miles from the ferry terminal.
Charles-Augustin Meurice opened a coaching inn here in 1771 to look after British travellers landing at Calais, and later founded Le Meurice in Paris. The present building dates from 1954 to 1955 and has 41 rooms. It feels more like a traditional French town hotel than a chain, which is the reason to choose it. Parking is on the street or in public car parks nearby.
5. Hôtel Richelieu
Where: 17 Rue Richelieu, beside the Parc Richelieu.
Distance: about 0.7 miles from the ferry terminal and
1.3 km (0.8 miles) from the beach.
A small independent hotel with compact rooms of around 15 square metres and good review scores for cleanliness. Check-in runs from 2pm to 10pm, so it is not the right choice if your ferry gets in at midnight. Parking is limited and charged per day. Recent guests mention renovation work, so ask about it when you book.
6. Hôtel Belazur
Where: 23 to 27 Place d’Armes, the old main square.
Distance: about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from the port.
Forty rooms on the square, with bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Buffet breakfast is an optional extra. It suits an evening in Calais rather than a pre-dawn departure, since there is no private car park.
Compare all hotels in Calais centre
Which one should you book?
Sailing before 7am: Holiday Inn Calais Centre or ibis Calais Car Ferry. Both have their own parking and you can be at check-in within minutes.
Arriving late at night: ibis Calais Car Ferry, which has staff and snacks round the clock. Avoid small hotels with a 10pm check-in cut-off.
Turning the stopover into an evening out: ibis Styles, Meurice or Belazur, all within a few minutes’ walk of Rue Royale and Place d’Armes.
Timing your morning at the port
Check-in closes 60 minutes before departure with DFDS and Irish Ferries and 90 minutes before with P&O Ferries (and 90 minutes with Irish Ferries if you have a pet). French exit checks and UK passport control both happen in Calais before you board, so build in extra time during school holidays. The EU Entry/Exit System adds another step for UK passport holders, and queues at the booths can be long when it is busy.
Remember that France is one hour ahead of the UK. Your booking shows local departure time, so a 07:00 sailing from Calais is 06:00 in the UK.

Frequently asked questions
Which hotel is closest to Calais ferry port?
Holiday Inn Calais Centre on Boulevard des Alliés is the closest, at roughly 0.4 miles from the ferry terminal in a straight line. The ibis Calais Car Ferry is about 1 km by road and has a large free car park.
Can I walk from a hotel to the Calais ferry?
Only foot passengers can, and only P&O Ferries carries foot passengers on the Calais to Dover route. Foot passengers use a shuttle bus from the passenger terminal to the ship. Car passengers must drive through the vehicle check-in.
Are Coquelles hotels good for the ferry?
They work, but they are on the wrong side of town. From Coquelles you drive the A16 past Calais to reach the port, around 15 minutes in light traffic. For LeShuttle they are ideal.
Do hotels near the port have secure parking?
Holiday Inn Calais Centre and ibis Calais Car Ferry have private car parks. ibis Styles has a small private car park that must be booked and paid for. Smaller town-centre hotels rely on street or public parking. See our parking in Calais guide.
